Accessible bathroom grants in Ireland: the short answer

Your Local County Council pays the Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability, up to €40,000, and the Mobility Aids Grant, up to €8,000, towards an accessible bathroom. The work must not start until the council approves it. Walk-In Showers is not a council and doesn't award grants.

Three grants, one application form

GrantMost it paysIncomeBathroom work
Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability€40,000Up to 100% under €37,500, tapering to 30% near €75,000; nothing over itAccessible shower, downstairs toilet or shower room
Mobility Aids Grant€8,000Up to €37,500Level-access shower, grab rails
Housing Aid for Older People€10,700Up to €75,000, aged 66 or overEssential repairs, not a bathroom upgrade

One form covers all three. The council decides which one fits.

The one rule that costs people the grant

Lodge the application before any work starts. No County Council pays a grant if work began before the application was lodged and approved.

Get written quotes from your local fitter first, submit the application with the Occupational Therapist or doctor report, and wait for written approval before strip-out starts.
